Our company is still in it’s infancy. We opened our doors in May of 2005, but the original idea or concept developed over several years previous to this.
The owner of Summit Meats & Sausage Ltd., Paul Housen, was working within the meat industry for 10 years until he was seriously injured in a vehicle rollover in 1992 rendering him a quadriplegic.
About 2002, Paul was frustrated with what he interrupts as “mediocre at best” customer service received in most large chain stores. In addition to this, he could not find a decent sausage product anywhere to purchase.
So the wheels were set in motion. Countless hours on the phone and sitting in front of the computer, haggling with dozens and dozens of equipment dealers across North America trying to find the adequate equipment.
Almost 2 years go by and finally enough was purchased to start a small full service shop. Paul had no idea when or where or if this idea was gonna fly. Anyhow, he noticed a small strip mall was just built on 115th Ave & Central in Sutherland in the Fall of 2004. He saw this as a great location. Close to a large residential area populated by a range of different ages, races and incomes.
So here we are, Fall of 2007. The store has evolved considerably in this short time. We have went through a lot of staff members, made significant improvements in the appearance of the shop and increased the inventory selection available to our customers.

people for the job. We feel we’ve accomplished this. Add to this great service, great products and a beautiful store front and you have yourself a business your customers can be proud to shop at.
